Ovrevolt (pronounced over-volt) is the culmination of a twenty-plus
year songwriting and performing partnership between guitarist John Menich and
vocalist Brad Reamer who, in various formations of the band, have performed
with such heavies as Ronnie Montrose, James Young (Styx), Anthrax, Randy
Jackson (Zebra), and most recently, REO Speedwagon. In its current formation,
Ovrevolt is powered by the potent combination of drummer Gary Kouba and bassist
Ron Dieken, both veterans of the Chicago music scene and accomplished musicians
in their own right.
Drawing
inspiration from their surroundings, Chicago's Ovrevolt uses the blues as a
jumping off point, just as the English architects of rock did forty-some years
ago, and meld it with unlikely influences to create something very heavy and
unforgettable. Ovrevolt connects the dots between late 60's English blues,
early 70's hard rock, Middle-Eastern devotional music, and 90's grunge to form
a cohesive sound that isn't afraid to go off in tangents but never forgets the
melody.
Live shows
are stripped-down, raw, and brimming with energy and spontaneity. In additional
to their original music, Ovrevolt uses their live shows as an opportunity to
pay homage to the masters who came before them. Preferring to stick to 90's era
grunge and rock, they also take sadistic pleasure in confusing their audiences
with disfigured versions of classics by the Beatles, Hendrix, the Rolling
Stones, etc.
Though officially formed in 2009, the band has been quick to generate
a lot of excitement within the Chicago music scene and beyond. Recent shows
have included invitations to play some legendary local venues including, The
Hard Rock Café - Chicago, John Barleycorn, and Naperville's Ribfest. The
band's website and social media presence continually receives large amounts of
hits, and music is downloaded by fans world-wide.
Topping it off, Ovrevolt makes all of their music
freely available to all from their web site. The band believes so strongly in
what they do, that they want nothing to stand in the way of getting their music
out to the masses. |

Starting on drums at age 4 it became clear very early to John exactly
why he was put on this earth. Switching to guitar at age 12 his true voice was
realized and there has been no looking back ever since. John's influences run
the range from Jimmy Page and Robin Trower to Ali Akbar Khan to Glenn Branca;
however it was the sound and passion of Jimi Hendrix that originally drew him
to the guitar and continues to inspire him to this day. Aside from drums and
guitar John also plays the bass, sitar, and various Indian and African
percussion instruments. |

Brad,
aka The Lung, belts it out for you. John heard him sing at a party
the first time they met and was the first to think this guy could
sing
good call! While never preachy, Brad writes lyrics that will make you
think as he explores our everyday existence
and hes been known to
blow the covers off of more than one PA system. |

Gary started playing the clarinet at age 8, but quickly found out his
real passion was with the drums. His dad bought him his first drum set when he
was 16, and the rest is history. Having played in a wide variety of bands
touching on all different styles of music, he realized that his early influence
of grunge hard rock was what he loved most. When Gary met John and Brad,
Ovrevolt was formed, and the excitement generated by the band has been
contagious.. |

Ron
started playing alto sax in 5th grade and switched to baritone sax and its bass
lines early in high school. The combination of jazz and classical studies with
the desire to play rock n' roll provided the catalyst to play bass guitar.
Heralding from Chicago's southwest suburbs, Ron played with a number of bands
and projects focusing on original music. For the last decade, Ron has played
with local bands, WADe and the Loftus Lounge. For Ron, it's not the quantity of
bass that matters, but rather the quality. Well, ok, quantity matters
too
